From almost the beginning of this year I had been looking for a good short story meme to take part in, mainly because I have so many short story books sitting on my shelf, and had no incentive to read them. However, the only short story meme I could discover was on a Saturday, and as my weekends are too busy for reading I finally decided to start a short story meme of my own. Hence, in the beginning of July 2011, Short Stories on Wednesdays was born.
I have been having fun with this meme. I’ve been introduced to new short story writers through reviews that others have shared, and I’ve been encouraged to whittle down my collection bit by bit. So, I’ve decided to continue with this meme next year. However, I’ve decided to make just a few changes to make our Wednesdays a wee bit more interesting in 2012.
- I thought it might be a nice idea to have a theme in the last Wednesday of every month. Those who join in on the meme during that week will have to pick a story to read that revolves around the given theme. It should be interesting to note what various authors can do with just one topic, right?
- I also thought it would be interesting to have guest posts, once a month, by fellow bloggers dealing with either essay-type questions on short stories or having them post one of their own short stories.
- If there is any short story writer out their who would like to give away a few copies of their collections I’d be happy to host a giveaway here on every second Wednesday of each month. Guest posts by writers would also be welcome.
The short story form is rather under-appreciated, and it would be nice, I think, to draw more people to the genre. I know I’ve spent the last few months enjoying my short story sessions!
So, yes. If there is anyone interested in writing an essay or a short story or wants to give-away their short stories for Short Stories on Wednesdays 2012, please do fill in this form. In the comment section of this form let me know if you’re interested in submitting an essay or a short story if you would like to write a guest post, or the details of your collection if you want me to host a giveaway. Thank you!
Hmmmm, I think I filled out your questionnaire when I meant to leave a comment! LOL – here is my comment:
I love this idea – I am a big fan of short stories and I don’t think readers read as many of them as they could! I’ll be trying to participate as the year goes on…
Lol! …and you’re welcome to join us any time! It is currently running every Wednesday. And I, personally, have been introduced to many new writers because of it!
….I hope to see you around!
I’m definitely joining you! I also have a lot of short stories that I’ve always wanted to read and never gotten around to doing it. =)
That’s great, Cam! Am looking forward to seeing what you read.
I am so thrilled to have found your meme. I am a writer and I know a lot of people who write short stories. I will spread the word. Thank you.
I have so enjoyed being a part of this Wednesday group of short story readers, and look forward to the coming year.
I’ve gone to the painter’s website, and found the name of the new button picture – ‘Can you see me now?’
I read somewhere it is a mask, so I guess the left part would go over the face, right? And those feathers would be off to one side of the face? Quite Venetian, methinks.
Anyhow, thanks for hosting this. I’ve wanted to read more short stories for years, and this has been a great way to do so.
Hi, I messaged you. I hope to become involved as well on my blog by adopting the meme – it’s my first meme!
Thanks for hosting!
I’ve generally been against participating in blog memes, but I might just have to make this one the exception… short stories are definitely underrated.
I think this should be worth it, no?
I’ve found myself reading quite a few short stories in the last six months (since this meme began i.e.). I think I read about 50 of them. And I’ve discovered so many new writers because of them! You might find this useful too.
Definitely. It’ll also be a good way to motivate me to keep working my way through the collected works of H. P. Lovecraft.
That’s great!
I’ve been meaning to join in on this since last year. I really have to make a conscious effort to do so. I’m going to subscribe via email so I can be reminded. I’m also going to join in on some of your Shakespeare reads this year. Couldn’t this month though. Too much going on.
Love the new blog look! The header is divine.
Yay! Am looking forward to your joining in!
And thank you.
