The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 13th and runs through Sunday, August 19th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 5.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog
I’ve decided to take part in this read-a-thon for the same reason I always take part in read-a-thons — to have fun! And also, to see how much reading I can do…which usually isn’t much. I’m not going to set myself huge goals this time. Just something I know is fairly believable for me.
Note: This is a sticky post until the end of this event. All my updates will be added to this very post.
Books I hope to complete.
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak –> link to review [Completed!]
- Anne’s House of Dreams by L M Montgomery –> link to review [Completed on Monday!]
Book I’m reading aloud with husband. (am not really aiming to complete it this week though I’m hoping to make a sizable dent in it)
- The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan
Book I might begin should first two be completed.
- Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

I love that you and your hubby read out loud together. I had a friend that I did that with once and we loved it. But it took forever to get to the end of the book since we lived in different cities with crazy schedules. Good luck!
Hi there, Aysia!
This would be the first time my husband and I will be reading something aloud together apart from the Bible. I happened to want to read the book, knew th hubby would like to read it too but hasn’t much time, so I suggested I read it aloud to him every evening and he liked the suggestion. We begin today….I’m hoping it works!

Rebecca!!! READ IT.
(I’ve read some Dickens and Hemingway aloud with my mama. Fun.)
I’m going to! Just as soon as I finish reading Anne’s House of Dreams…and maybe Bunyan. Sadly, the reading with my husband is not working out because of how late he gets home.
Great list of goals! Fun is the most important one, BTW
Good luck and have fun!
Thank you!
I haven’t read any of the Montgomery books yet, I keep meaning to, though I have read Rebecca, very interesting. I have another book by her that I hope to get to one of these days, the House on the Strand. Enjoy the read-a-thon! Thanks for stopping by and taking part in our challenge!
Oh! I do hope you get to read Montgomery some day….her books are simply delicious!
I’m really looking forward to reading Rebecca. I’ve read her Jamaica Inn and a wee bit of My Cousin Rachel…I never finished the latter. But I think I’ll definitely enjoy Rebecca. I’ve seen about three movie versions of it!
Good luck with your goals! I loved The Book Thief. Such a great book. Of course, I’m in too! Never a doubt with me and read-a-thons! Happy reading!
Thank you, Michelle!
I finished The Book Thief the day before yesterday and found I didn’t like it at all! :-/
Will hop on over to see how you’ve been doing this week.
You’ve read a lot so far, good luck for the rest of the week!

Thank you!
I feel guilty!
I have started listening to The Book Thief months ago but can’t get myself to continue! The book is supposed to be amazing, but it’s. so. thick. Oh well, congrats on accepting the challenge and happy reading!
I’ve finished the book, and I see why you’re struggling with it. I didn’t think it was worth it, so I wouldn’t particularly encourage you to go through with it!
Great job on the first day! How is the hubby reading aloud going so far?
Thank you, Alysia! Sadly, the ‘hubby reading’ isn’t coming along at all! We’re finding it hard to find the right time to sit down and enjoy a read-aloud session.
Good luck meeting your goals! I hope you enjoy this read-a-thon.
It’s a great one.
Thank you! I’m sure I will.
Good luck on the last day of the readathon
