The Classics Club: Question for October

The Happy Accidents of the Swing by Jean-Honore Fragonard (1768)

Why are you reading the classics?

I read some classics for the warmth they bring me. I read some classics for the experience of another time, another era and lifestyle. I read some classics to satisfy the old fashioned-ness that is in me. I read some classics to expand my knowledge and horizon. I read some classics because if I should teach again some day I know that these will stand me in good stead.

  1. Well, I think part of my liking to classics is reading of another time & another era, as you put it. And more than that, it’s interesting to find that actually what we face in life (and how we must handle it) is just the same at our present time as at other era.

    • That’s true! Some things are universal, not confined by time or space. I guess that’s really what makes a true classic timeless. :)

  2. Thanks for commenting on my blog.

It is very interesting to see how people in other times and places dealt with the journey of life. I don’t think life really changes all that much, just gets so much more complicated.

    Have a wonderful day.

  3. LIke you, I am reading the classics to further expand my horizon.

  4. I think I have the old fashioned-ness too, feels like time-travelling :)

Dear reader, thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Don't be discouraged if you do not get a response from me immediately. It might take me a day or two or three. :)
